Adele’s room (almost done)!

So, this is the current state of Adele’s room. I finally finished her rug the day after Christmas. I had originally planned on replacing the beige wool rug with another “room-sized” rug. But, there is really nothing wrong with the wool rug and maybe that much brightness would have been too much for the quilt. This one ended up being more of an area rug, giving her a soft and cozy play area for reading or playing dolls.

Adele didn’t like the fairy lights taped to her antique bed (who knew fairies used Scotch tape?), so we wrapped them up with her poofy tissue balls. It has a really nice effect at night!

I am still hoping to add in some nice soft lavender curtains like these:

Or maybe I could find some fringe stripe fabric like these are made of, and sew that to the Warm Window panels that I already have – to make Roman shades. If I can’t find a suitable fabric, I might even be able to just buy one long panel and make both Roman shades from that. Even though I like the look of long and flowy curtains, Roman shades would be a lot more practical in here; they wouldn’t interfere with her bed under the window on the left or the radiator under the window to the right (which opens to the craft room – wierd, I know).

I really want to put in a girlie chandelier (maybe pastel tole??) to replace the hideous overhead light that’s in there now. And maybe a cute lamp for next to her bed too!

I also want to skirt her radiator with some gathered ruffly fabric to make it look like a skirted table/nightstand. And sew a few pillows to make her bed look a bit more finished. While I do like the look of a bed with a lot of pillows, that just isn’t practical in my house. Nobody in my family (including me) wants to make it that much harder to get into bed at night when we are dead tired or to make the bed in the morning (assuming we make the bed at all). I think a neatly made bed just makes the whole room look lovely, so I really want to make it simple to do on a regular basis. So I will probably just sew some pillow covers for the pillows she sleeps on, maybe one bolster for the middle, and call it a day.

There is a nice mirror that I’d like Derm Dad to hang (it’s extremely heavy so it’s kind of a big deal) above her shorter dresser. I think it’s nice for a girl to have an area to check the “neatness of her appearance” before she begins the day.

Then we need a bit of art for the bare walls. She made a fun “A” craft that I’d like to frame. She glued teeny tiny scraps of fabric onto a page with a large letter A on it. Then I cut around the edges of the letter to give it crisp edges. It’s kind of small though. Maybe we could do a small gallery grouping on the wall with her art cart and nightstand/bookshelf. I think once we have some art on that wall, some fabric on the windows, and the mirror on the wall with her dressers and closet door, then we should move the poofies to the corner where her bed is, instead of on that window where they are now. I think that would look a bit more balanced and intentional.

I would also like to paint her short dresser and nightstand (which we are using as her bookshelf), but somehow, I don’t hate the beige and gold as much as I did originally. Ah, who am I kidding, I am having a baby in three months – I won’t be painting any furniture – so they are probably going to stay exactly the way they are now. =)

Do you think it’s possible to do all this before baby #3 makes his or her arrival? Of course, these aren’t the only projects on my plate . . . I have some plans to put some finishing touches on our master bedroom and Everett’s room too. And, we might be moving before the baby comes if our house goes on the market in early Spring . . . Nothing like finishing a room or two right BEFORE you move, huh? Seriously though, I think all this work could easily transfer to a new room in a new house.

Stay awhile to join me and my family on our journey of eucharisteo (radical gratitude) in the midst of life and loving our amazing Everett, our two-year-old son who lost over half of his brain in a stroke.
