Seven years ago, today, I said, “I do, I do!” to the best man that I have ever met or could ever hope to meet on this earth. He is so perfect for me! He encourages me so well, and he gives me support to be the best that I can be. He allows me to develop my interests and hobbies, like sewing, crafting, decorating, Charlotte Mason homeschooling, etc.. He JOINS me in my passions, like living responsibly on this earth – with the food that we purchase, beekeeping, etc. And he is truly grateful for the ways in which I serve him. Most importantly, he loves the Lord Jesus, and he seeks the Lord with his whole heart. He encourages me to do the same and he lovingly helps me to see my sin and to turn from it.
When we talked about getting married, we had both seen divorces and unhappy marriages, even among Christians, and we were both committed to something better. We both wanted a marriage that was so much more than “staying together” – although just doing your duty is appropriate sometimes. We wanted a marriage that truly was a picture of the relationship between God the Father and His bride the Church (the Body of Christ). We wanted our marriage to shout to the world: “Things can be so much better!” “Submission is beautiful!” “Serving and sacrifice are worth it!” and “We LOVE being married!”
I can honestly say that even though we have had some challenges, we have faced them together (with the Lord’s help), and our relationship (both with each other and also with the Lord) has grown the stronger for it. We had a pretty amazing marriage from the beginning, but I can honestly say that it has gotten exponentially better EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR!
