a cute little baby quilt

Our farmer’s wife just had a baby boy! I wanted to make a little something to bless their family. I was so proud of myself for figuring out how to tie the bow with no knots (that unties completely when you pull the strings) =) It’s the little things, you know?

I LOVE a quick craft project! I cut the squares in one evening, pieced the top in an afternoon, made the sandwich and quilted it in two more evenings, then I attached the binding and hand-tacked most of it last night, and finished it this morning. I had enough ready-made binding leftover from Everett’s baby quilt, so that part went super fast. I have never done this quilting pattern before (square in square), but I really liked sewing it and I really like how it looks. However, I don’t think I could handle it on a larger quilt, because there were a LOT of pivots! Believe it or not, Adele helped me with some of the hand-sewing on the binding. I would load up the needle, and she would pull the needle and the thread. She did a really good job!

a close-up of the square-in-square quilting pattern – soooo easy with the quilting guide. I like a pattern that looks good even when it isn’t precisely accurate.

Hi! I'm Nicole and this "pantry book" is my notebook of homekeeping, crafts, and professional motherhood. Stay awhile to join me and my family on our journey of eucharisteo (radical gratitude) in the midst of life and loving our amazing Everett, our two-year-old son who lost over half of his brain in a stroke.

  1. I love it — do you have a pattern to share??

    • I used a pre-made square template I bought at Joann’s a long time ago. I think it’s 5.5 inches. That’s all. I just laid them out and sewed them into rows, then attached the rows. It’s pretty simple.
