Adele turns FOUR!

My little girl is really growing up. And, she got her ears pierced.

Adele requested “Pasta Cheese with Bowties like Daddy wears” so we added bacon with the cheese sauce and topped it with breadcrumbs. Then we served sourdough bread on the side to make it a true carb-fest. It was ok. We’re still tweaking the recipe; when we get it right, I’ll share it here. She requested a strawberry pie, which was also only ok. The recipe used almost a pound of butter (we used our raw Spring butter which is about $20 per pound), not to mention two packages of organic frozen strawberries, so we were especially sad when it wasn’t magnificent. I mean, come on, a cake made from scratch with at least $30 in ingredients should be AWESOME. Next time, I’ll use this recipe!

Adele’s been helping me repair this quilt made by my great-grandmother in the 1970′s. Adele has moved beyond just pulling the needle through (gripping it at the end to keep the thread on); now, she even inserts the needle by herself. She does need a bit of direction on placement, but she is really sewing all by herself. If you look closely at the fabrics, you can really tell it’s from the 1970′s. I love the bold colors! It’s going to live at Auntie Kristen’s house when we get it all fixed. A few of the squares are shredded beyond repair, but most of it is in good shape. I am hand-stitching the squares together (where the stitches have come apart), but I’m not trying too hard to make my stitches invisible. It’s kind of “crazy quilt” style. My thread is close to neon pink and it’s super cute.

In the chair at the Piercing Pagoda. She chose light pink hearts. She didn’t want to sit in my lap or even hold my hand when they did the piercings. And, seriously, she didn’t cry or even wimper. She maintains, even now, that it didn’t hurt. And she LOVES having pierced ears!!

Hi! I'm Nicole and this "pantry book" is my notebook of homekeeping, crafts, and professional motherhood. Stay awhile to join me and my family on our journey of eucharisteo (radical gratitude) in the midst of life and loving our amazing Everett, our two-year-old son who lost over half of his brain in a stroke.
