Derm Dad calls me his “Binary Wife” – and by that he means that I am either off or on, hot or cold, never just lukewarm. And he’s mostly right. So, I had left the kids’ rooms in a partially decorated state for a few years and just left them that way because I didn’t want to spend any money and because I didn’t know what else to do. Well, I guess as part of my new baby nesting, I got the itch to make them both a bit more finished – you know, because we are moving in a few months, so this is a perfect time to redecorate, right?
Anywho, Adele’s room is pretty small, with her full-size antique bed and antique dresser, plus two more small French Provincial pieces that I need to paint but so far Derm Dad says no – and I can’t decide on a color anyway. I “decorated” her room by making her a quilt and then did nothing more for “decorating.” I think her room would look AWESOME with this rug:
It’s the Jubilee Rug from luluandgeorgia.com, but it’s about $900.
Adele wanted a nightlight but there aren’t any outlets that are visible from her bed. Well, if you can believe it, some fairies brought over an early birthday present for Adele – and she LOVES her new fairy lights!!! They are teeny tiny LED lights inside some lovely Peony flowers.
I still need to do something for window treatments, but I find it hard to commit because window treatments are soooo expensive (even just buying curtain rods for each window is expensive!) and then because the windows at each new house we live in are going to be different dimensions. So, we have a piece of fabric looped over the cheapie rods that came with the house and the raw edge of the fabric looks soooo classy! And then we have another “curtain” attached with safety pins. Seriously, I can’t get enough sophistication, apparently.
Maybe something like this for the painted French Provincial pieces for Adele? It’s from Jenny at littlegreennotebook and I LOVE her stuff!!!
And Everett’s room has experienced a more dramatic improvement than Adele’s lights addition. I added new sheets and a throw at the foot of the queen size bed in his room, and since the bed is the largest thing in there, it’s made a big difference! Previously, I just had a plain white sheet in there and it just looked really unfinished and plain. Here it is now:
I hope to bring in another pattern to reupholster the rocking chair and ottoman, maybe with some contrast piping? I’d like to get a cuter rug in here, too. And in my own bedroom for that matter, but we shall see if we win the lottery!
The new sheets in E’s room look good- couldn’t get the jojoba oil out of the old ones, huh?
Adele’s fairy flower lights are so pretty! Did you make them?
Julie, they are from a Magic Cabin catalog.
